    Trauma-Informed Coaching approaches self-awareness by recognizing clients may have been affected by trauma. Trauma-Informed Coaching recognizes and acknowledges the role trauma may play in the lives of many individuals. Coaching the whole individual with trauma-informed guiding principles as a framework can reduce the likelihood of re-traumatization with the focus on changing negative conditions and generating powerful solutions in a safe, trusting and collaborative environment.

    Speaker Bio:

    As the Vice President for Education and Foster Coaching, Dr. Melissa Mahan developed and directs the Life Coaching program for Family Tapestry, a division of the San Antonio Children’s Shelter. This unique coaching program creates pathways to success for older foster youth who are preparing to exit care. The Life Coaching Program is built upon the 7 Casey Life Domains, CliftonStrengths®, Emotional Intelligence and uses the Trauma-Informed Care principles.

    Dr. Mahan has over 25 years of business, non-profit and higher education experience and is passionate about coaching individuals to achieve their dreams despite past trauma. She has presented at numerous national conferences and written the coaching curriculum utilized by Family Tapestry for the Life Program.

    Dr. Mahan is an International Coaching Federation Associate Certified Coach, CliftonStrengths® Certified Coach and a Certified Wellness Coach. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Northeastern State University, a Master of Science degree in Business Administration from Southern Nazarene University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Adult Education and Human Relations from Oklahoma State University. She is also the newly-elected Secretary of the Board for ICF San Antonio.

    • Interpret the updated ICF CoE
    • Identify the difference between the updated CoE and old CoE
    • Incorporate ethical principles as an ICF Professional Coach;
    • Increase your level of ethical maturity towards your client, coaching colleagues and society

    Presenter Bio:

    George M. Nuthu is a Leadership Coach and Consultant (Coachultant) whose mission is to inspire and influence professionals, and especially leaders, to discover their potential, draw out their passion, develop their proficiency and demonstrate high performance so that their teams drive up productivity and their organizations deliver profitability. He believes that each leader is whole, creative and resourceful and only needs to partner with a trusted advisor or confidant in a thought-provoking process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.

    As a Leadership Development Professional, George brings a wealth of experience of over ten years of working with close to 2500 leaders in local and international organizations from East, West and South Africa, South-East Asia and the Middle East. He is also Coach Trainer and Mentor Coach plus a Certified Professional Analyst in Behavior, EQ and Driving Forces. George has been a practicing lawyer and church minister, professions that has made him understand the intrigues and dynamics of human behavior.

    In the both ICF global and Kenya community, George is the Global Chair of the inaugural Dispute Resolution Panel, the Co-Leader of the Ethics Community of Practice and served as a member of the ICF Code Of Ethics Review Team 2018-9. Currently he is a member of the ICF Global Task Forces reviewing the ICF Definition of Coaching and Values plus Embedding Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging in ICF. Locally in the ICF Kenya Chapter, he has served as the Chair of the Nomination Board, Member of the Education Board. He is the current Project Leader of the Ignite Project.

    As part of this year's International Coaching Week celebration, ICF San Antonio will launch a new pro-bono opportunity on May 19, 2021. 

    Members interested in learning more about how to serve young men and women in transition who have been disqualified from Air Force bootcamp, are invited to join this orientation session. 

    Roger Hall, Director of Military Partnerships, and Susanna Clavello, President of the Board, will share an overview of D.R.I.V.E. Transition pro-bono coaching, background information, resources, and how members can support this effort.

    D.R.I.V.E. stands for:

    • Develop entry-level skills
    • Redistribute skilled human capital
    • Improve resume quality and distribution
    • Vault talented airmen into civilian sectors
    • Expose airmen to civilian hiring officials

    There is no fee to attend this orientation session.

Join this panel event to learn how the military, healthcare, higher education, and non-profit leaders from across Texas are leveraging coaching to navigate the current social and economic climate.

    Facilitated by ICF San Antonio Past-President, Carissa Gay, MCC, this panel will highlight how leaders can help their teams move from reality to possibility. 

    Panelists: - Dr. Julianne Cenac, Executive Director of Talent Development at UT Health (Houston); Brig. Gen. Laura Lenderman of Joint Base San Antonio (San Antonio); Steven Sosland, Chief People Officer at Texas Tech University (North Texas); Alicyn Yarborough, CEO of A Glimmer of Hope (Austin)


    Panelist Bios:

    Dr. Julianne Cenac is the Executive Director of Organizational and Talent Development at UTHealth, where she also serves as the program director for The Leadership Institutes at UTHealth. Recently named to the Forbes Coaches Council, she is a frequent contributor on the subject of leadership to Forbes.com. Her 20-year career includes working internationally as a management consultant and corporate learning executive throughout China, Singapore, Europe, India, the Middle East and South Africa. Previously, Dr. Cenac served as assistant vice president at Regent University where she led

    the Professional and Continuing Education Division and helped launch the institution’s executive education programs internationally. Prior to that role, she served as a senior management consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton in McLean, Virginia where she led projects in strategy and performance for clients including the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense,

    National Institutes of Health and Department of Justice among others. In addition, she also serves as an executive leadership coach—having worked with hundreds of executives in corporate, nonprofit and government leadership roles including a senator and two heads of state.

    Dr. Cenac earned a PhD in Organizational Leadership and an MBA in Management. She also holds a BA degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Russian Studies from the University of Houston. She is author of the upcoming book Emergence: The Natural Process of Becoming a Leader. Her research interests include leader behavioral repertoire, complexity and leader emergence.

    Brig. Gen. Laura L. Lenderman is the Director of Plans, Programs and Requirements, Headquarters Air Education and Training Command, Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas. She is responsible for planning and programming a $7.6 billion annual budget that supports 60,000 personnel who recruit, train, and educate United States Air Force Airmen and international partners across 22 bases. She also develops AETC’s inputs to the Program Objective Memorandum, leads AETC Strategic Planning, and manages flying training and technical training operational capability requirements. 

    Brig. Gen. Lenderman graduated from Duke University with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1993. After attending pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi, she served several tours flying the KC-135 Stratotanker at Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota, Fairchild AFB, Washington and Altus AFB, Oklahoma. Her staff assignments include serving as the Chief, Commander’s Action Group and Executive Officer to the Commander, Air Mobility Command,

    Scott AFB, Illinois, Analysis Branch Chief, Joint Staff J-8, the Pentagon,  Arlington, Virginia, and Deputy Director-Military, Strategic Plans, Policy and Logistics, U.S. Transportation Command, Scott AFB, Illinois. She also commanded the 15th Air Mobility Operations Squadron at Travis AFB, California, served as the Vice Commander of the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing in Southwest Asia and commanded the 375th Air Mobility Wing at Scott AFB,

    Illinois. Prior to her current position, Brig. Gen. Lenderman was the commander, 502nd Air Base Wing and Joint Base San Antonio, Texas.

    Steve Sosland is a professional disrupter. Organizations hire or consult with him when they want to renovate their culture based on the core values of their team members. This approach differs from the norm where a small group of senior leaders decide on rallying around values they choose that may or may not fit their employees. 

    Sosland is an alumnus of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Boston University and the University of Texas Dallas. He has used his formal and informal education as an avid reader in five industries including higher education where he currently serves as the Chief People Officer for the Texas Tech University System’s four universities in West Texas and beyond. 

    Kelly Sosland coordinates the nationwide builds for Habitat for Humanity’s Care-a-Vanners group. Steve and Kelly have two daughters.  Rachel is a Urologist in Austin, and Bekah is a systems engineer for NASA’s Perseverance Rover that recently landed on Mars. Bekah and Gordon are incredible parents of Milo and Luna. Their love fills his cup.

    Alicyn Yarbrough; CEO  |  A Glimmer of Hope 

    Alicyn leads Glimmer’s efforts to reduce poverty and build resilience in rural Ethiopian communities. She guides the development and expansion of the organization’s community-led approach that centers around income growth, good health and continuous access to education. Since joining Glimmer in 2010, Alicyn has served in various roles, including overseeing strategy development, program design and fundraising. She spearheaded the effort to revise Glimmer’s theory of change in 2018 to focus on agricultural livelihoods as they key to building long-term resilience in rural Ethiopia. Her deep commitment to the people of Ethiopia drives her focus on deepening and leveraging the strong partnerships and country-wide progress seen since Glimmer was founded in 2000. Alicyn earned a bachelor’s degree in business and accounting from Texas Tech University. She currently resides in Austin, Texas, with her family.

    Teresa Pool is a highly experienced coach and human behavior specialist with over 25 years of working with leaders and teams to select the best talent, overcome barriers and create a higher degree of success. Her passion is identifying and resolving the people component of challenging business problems. Her work spans multiple industries and companies of various sizes including the US Missile Defense Agency, Safran, Stryker, Computer Associates (Asia Pacific), State Farm, Integris Health, University of North Texas, Ericsson, YMCA USA, Best Friends Animal Society and the Perot Museum. Her specialty is partnering with senior executives and high potential leaders that want to move quickly to the next level of performance. She has a reputation for creating a powerful growth experience that challenges and develops the leader at multiple levels.

    Teresa’s personal and professional experience gives her a unique perspective and understanding of her clients’ needs. She spent two decades in global technology industry, focused on developing leaders, business planning, market strategy, and change management. Teresa has coached professionally since January 2001 and is credentialed by the International Coach Federation as a Master Certified Coach with over 5,000 coaching hours. She also holds credentials as a Certified NeuroTransformational Coach (CNTC), Talent Selection Specialist, Neuro Linguistics Master Practitioner, and Equine Facilitated Coaching Specialist.
